Walter W. Redfern built this fine replica in 1964, as no original DR-1s exist. On this machine, a Warner “Scarab” 7 cylinder 145-hp radial replaces the 9-cylinder, 120-hp LeRhone rotary engine of the original.

No, there is nothing wrong with this photo - the pilot's name on this 1938 Taylorcraft was deliberately painted upside-down - or, rather, right-side-up, when the pilot is flying in his usual attitude.
